Copywriting Tips
One of the objectives of copywriting is to get the prospect to buy now. Not tomorrow, not next week, not next year, but now. We would still make money if they were to buy later, but if they don't go ahead and make the purchase, there's a good chance that they never will.
This creates a conundrum for some copywriters. They realize the importance of making the sale right away, but they are concerned about being too pushy. They don't want to scare buyers off with a hard sell. So they just point out the benefits of their product and hope for the best. Unfortunately for them, that rarely works.
But the fact is that you don't have to be pushy to get people to buy now. You just have to create a sense of urgency. By providing an incentive to act quickly, you can persuade fence sitters to go ahead and take the plunge.
There are several ways you could go about creating a sense of urgency. You could:
* Offer a discount to those who order by a certain date or within a certain number of hours, or to the first ten, hundred or thousand people who order. No one wants to pay more than they have to for something, so if they are interested they will go ahead and place an order.
* Provide a special bonus for those who act quickly. You could double the order, include an additional product for free, or offer coaching or consulting services that relate to the product.
* Use scarcity as an incentive. This technique works well for physical products, but it can also be used with memberships involving digital products or services. For example, you could offer a coaching program to a limited number of students, citing the time required for one-on-one assistance as a reason for keeping numbers low.
Of course, if you place limitations on an offer, it is crucial to stick to them. If a consumer buys right away to take advantage of the offer, then returns to the site only to find that it is still available when you said it wouldn't be, you lose credibility. And no matter how great your copy is, it can't make up for that.
Copywriting requires a certain amount of assertiveness. But if you create a sense of urgency, you can convince your prospects to buy now without being pushy.
